On Sunday 19th July, a hardy handful of parishioners set out on a six hour hike which raised over £580.
The aim of the walk was to raise money for Flame 2027 (a huge event for young Catholics which takes place biannually in London) as well as other youth events like the World Youth Days 2027 in South Korea . This is such a vital cause as our parish has a thriving scene for young people and supporting that is essential. For example, the youth group attracts up to fifty teenagers every week in term time! Therefore ensuring our young people have the resources and funds they need to continue to grow in faith is essential, and the walk helped this become a reality.
The group visited fifty churches in Norwich, saying a Hail Mary at each, thus achieving a walking rosary around the city.
Now, you may be wondering, how did our intrepid hikers fare for the six long hours? They got off to an educational start as they delved into the history of some of our city’s most fascinating churches, such as St. Savior’s Church on Magdalen Street.
The nourishing lunch and rest at Castle Gardens was a much needed stop in the middle of the day, as was the ice cream break in the market! After lunch, the group realised that time was not on their side and so quickened their pace, visiting 26 churches in the final two hours.
Around 3pm, the group ended at our lovely Cathedral. They recuperated with some much needed chocolate. A few of the members (those who could still walk) then went to Vespers at 4.30, followed by 5.30 Mass. A lovely end to a rewarding day!
