‘Christmas at the Cathedral’
As the festive season approaches, the Cathedral is once again preparing to welcome the community for a joyful programme of events filled with craft, music, tradition, and togetherness. This year’s Christmas at the Cathedral schedule offers something for every age and interest, from hands-on workshops to majestic concerts and family celebrations. Below is a guide to the wonderful moments awaiting visitors this Christmas.
Christmas Wreath Workshops – 27th & 29th November
Begin the season in creative style by crafting your own festive wreath. Guided by expert florists, these workshops are perfect for beginners and seasoned crafters alike. All materials are provided including mulled wine and mince pies, and participants will take home a beautiful handmade wreath to adorn their door.
Quiz Night – 29th November
Warm up a winter evening with the Cathedral’s lively Quiz Night, complete with a hearty serving of pie and chips. Gather a team or join one on the night, expect fun questions, friendly competition, and good company.
Breaks Charity Concert – 4th December at 6:00pm
Enjoy a beautiful evening of music in support of Breaks Charity. This uplifting concert will feature a range of performers and seasonal pieces, all set within the Cathedral’s stunning acoustic space.
St Nicholas Christmas Craft Fair – 6th December, 10:30am–2:30pm
The annual craft fair returns with local makers offering handmade gifts, festive decorations, artisan foods, and unique creations. It’s an ideal opportunity to discover thoughtful Christmas presents while supporting local craftspeople.
UEA Christmas Carol Concert – 10th December at 7:30pm
Always a highlight of the season, the University of East Anglia’s Carol Concert brings choir, brass, and community together in a stirring evening of traditional carols and enchanting choral music.
Britten Sinfonia Presents: Bach’s Christmas Oratorio – 12th December at 7:00pm
Experience one of Bach’s most glorious works performed by the renowned Britten Sinfonia. This concert promises a rich, immersive celebration of the Christmas story through some of classical music’s most cherished movements.
Cathedral’s Carols by Candlelight – 21st December at 3:00pm
A treasured Cathedral tradition, Carols by Candlelight invites visitors to gather for an afternoon of timeless carols illuminated by gentle candlelight. Afterwards, enjoy mulled wine and mince pies with friends and family.
Children’s Nativity Guided Tour – 23rd December at 11:00am
Designed especially for families, this interactive guided tour brings the Nativity story to life. Children are invited to explore the Cathedral, discover the hidden story of the Nativity in its windows and stonework and enjoy a gentle, imaginative retelling of the story at the heart of the season.
